Volunteer and Community Service Programs
The Channahon Park District works with the community to assist area residents in completing volunteer and service hours. The programs benefit both those who desire to participate in completing volunteer and community service hours and the Channahon Park District.
Types of Service Available
Volunteer Coaches are the driving force in our youth athletic leagues. Volunteer coaches are essential to the success of the Youth Soccer, Girls Soccer, Youth Flag football, Youth Basketball and T-ball leagues.
Interested coaches will need to complete the coach’s questionnaire and return to the Park District. They must also provide a driver’s license and agree to a criminal conviction background check administered by the Illinois State Police.
Volunteer training will be provided to coaches as required for each sport.
Community volunteers are welcome at the Channahon Park District. Community volunteers may assist with special events hosted by the District or perform other tasks in our programs and at our parks and facilities.
Community volunteers should complete the Request for Service form and turn in to the Park District. A criminal conviction background check administered by the Illinois State Police may be required for certain volunteer positions.
Community Service hours sought by local students, church members, or members of other service organizations can be provided by the Park District.
Those seeking community service hours should complete the Request for Service form and turn in to the Park District.
Peer Jury and Court Ordered Community Service
Community Service requirements originating in the law enforcement or judicial systems may be accommodated by the Channahon Park District. The District may not be able to suitably fulfill all requests and timelines to complete these types of community service.
Only residents of the Channahon Park District or students from Minooka High School will be considered for placement.
Community Service Assignment Process
Requests will be considered on an individual basis.
Once the Request for Service Form is completed, it will be reviewed by Park District Staff Members.
Park District Staff will determine the opportunities for the request to be accommodated. If there are opportunities, the person making the request will be contacted and their information verified, and a schedule will be agreed to.
A file will be created for the individual in order to keep documentation of hours, letters written, forms, etc. The file will be confidential for Peer Jury and Court Ordered Community Service individuals.
The park district cannot accommodate requests for Peer Jury or Court Ordered Community Service for offenses involving violent acts, illegal drugs, or theft.
