Challenge Tennis Academy Tennis Lessons

Channahon Park District is excited to have Challenge Fitness of Lockport here to run tennis lessons and programs this summer. The tennis pros of Challenge Fitness are certified and teach tennis year-round to all levels and ages.

Junior Beginner and Advanced Junior Beginner

Ages 5-12 years
The program utilizes smaller courts, lighter balls, and shorter nets for younger players to learn tennis easier and quicker just as other sports use different equipment and supplies given the ages of the participants. The program was created by the USTA and all staff are highly trained in the new format.

Junior Beginner
Ages 5-8 years
This class is for young children ages 5-8, with little to no tennis knowledge. This class will include focus on forehands, backhands and volleys using the Quick Start method as the platform for learning. Each lesson will end with a game that works on the shot learned in that day’s lesson. Players at this level will focus on rallies and volleys. Participants should provide their own racquet.

Teen Tennis

Ages 12-16 years
Players at this level will be on full size courts with emphasis on stroke production, footwork and point playing. Players will serve, sustain a rally inside the service box and are playing out points. Participants should provide their own racquet.

Co-Ed T-Ball/Coach Pitch League

Grades K-2nd
Young baseball/softball players will be introduced to the basic fundamentals and use those skills in game situations. The T-Ball league in recent years has most of the kids beginning practices on the Tees and come the end of the season the players develop to hit the coach’s pitches! Players sign up as individuals and are placed on teams using a blind draft. Teams will have one practice during the week (starting the week of June 4) and one game on Saturdays (starting on June 16). All participants will receive a team shirt and a participation award. Bring your glove and get ready for some fun! Volunteer coaches needed.

Flag Football League

Ages 6-12 years (Age as of September 1, 2018)
Get ready for another exciting season of Flag Football. Players will learn fundamental skills like passing, catching, running, blocking and defense then use those skills in game situations. Teams will practice once a week (starting the week of August 20) and play a game every Sunday (starting Sept 9). Players cannot request to be on the same team. This non-contact league will help beginners learn the game of football and give players with some experience a chance to improve their skills. All participants receive an NFL reversible jersey, set of flags, and a participation award. Volunteer coaches needed.

Girl’s Fall Softball League

Ages 6-10 years (Age as of August 1, 2018)
Why only play softball in the summer? Get out those spikes and gloves one last time for some fall softball! Each team will have practice and games throughout the week. Practices will begin in mid-August and games shortly after. Teams will play games against other Channahon teams as well as Minooka Girls Softball teams. Coaches will determine practices and game times. Please help the coaches by being as flexible with schedules as possible as days and times may change from week to week. Each girl will receive a uniform and award. Volunteer coaches needed.

Tumbling Tune Up

Ages 6-14 years
Keep up with your tumbling skills over the summer with this new class. All skill levels welcome. The instructors will cater to your child’s skill level with appropriate skills. Participants will gain coordination, strength, flexibility and confidence.

Roller Skating/Blading Lessons

Ages 4-12 years
Participants will be grouped based on ability. Additional times maybe added to accommodate group size. Help your child learn to enjoy this health, lifelong activity by ensuring that they learn how to skate in a relaxed, encouraging environment. In just a few weeks, your child will be skating like a pro! Class is taught to match the pace of the students and will cover basic skating movements, the safest way to fall, and some fun games to get the kids excited. Free wifi available while parents wait.

Family Archery

Students and parents will have the opportunity to develop the skills needed for Archery and learn this unique Olympic sport. Learn about safety, equipment and shooting. Parents are encouraged to register and participate with their child. All equipment for this program will be provided, however you may use your own equipment with the approval of the instructor.

Ice Skating Classes

In cooperation with the Joliet Park District, the Channahon Park District is able to offer our residents a special fee for all ice skating lessons at Inwood Ice Arena. The fee is equivalent to Joliet’s resident rate, plus a $2 per class, non-refundable administrative fee.

From beginner to advanced, there are lessons for every level of skater, and not just for figure skaters. These lessons are valuable to inline skaters and hockey players as well. Additional classes and private lessons are also available. You must register for classes at the Arrowhead Community Center. Ryuku-Kempo Karate

Ages 5-11 years
Let Sensei John Ventura of the Bob Golden School of Self Defense teach you the art of Ryuku-Kempo Karate using real life situations. Karate will not only help you defend yourself but will teach you self-respect, self-discipline, mental focusing and physical development. Instructed by John Ventura, 7th Degree Black Belt.

Ready Set Run

Grades 4th-8th for 2017-2018 school year
This class is focused on participation, self-improvement, and developing a healthy lifestyle. We will teach the fundamentals of running with emphasis on safety, form, attire, nutrition, endurance, goal-setting, stretching, and cross-training. With multiple instructors, all participants get individual attention and encouragement. Sign your kids up to develop a skill that will give them many benefits throughout their lives.
