The Channahon Park District provides a variety of supervised opportunities for youth to build and learn new skills, interact and socialize with their peers in a fun environment.

Keyboarding and Koding Robot Programming – NEW CLASS ADDED!

Ages 7-12 years
Knowing how to use computers as tools (not just toys) is a key component of core curriculum. Young learners need to know keyboarding, functionality and the logic of coding to be ready to embrace their upcoming academic adventures. The expert staff of Smart, Starters, Inc. delivers instruction on the tools students need in a dynamic, fun and challenging environment. This newly revised curriculum includes keyboarding/function keys, coding, programming and safe Internet habits. Everyone works at their own skill level and returning students will continue their progression through the program. 1:1 ratio on all equipment, including the robots. Not to be missed!

Horseback Riding Lessons with Nova Quarter Horses – NEW!

Get up and go to the Nova Quarter Horses, Inc! It is only a quick 25 minute drive to Mokena.  It will be fun for all ages at any riding level, no previous experience is needed. 

Come out to learn both Western and English disciplines taught by our highly qualified trainers and instructors. We offer both an indoor and outdoor arena so Nova is able to offer lessons year round. Jeans and hard soled or gym shoes are required.  Please take a look on their website to see what days you would prefer for your lessons.

American Red Cross First Aid for Little People & Home Alone

Ages 5-10 years
This class is designed to instill confidence in young children when an emergency situation arises. Active participation is encouraged through discussion and sharing experiences with the instructor’s guidance. Children will make their own first aid kit to take home, with all materials provided. ‘Home Alone’ teaches children simply safety rules and procedures for responsible self-care when they are home alone. The class includes viewing a short film, ‘Alone at Home, ‘produced by the American Red Cross, an activity book, discussion on emergency phone numbers, proper use of the house key and answering the phone. Magic Class

Ages 5-12 years
Children are guaranteed to have a great time as they learn a collection of fascinating and mesmerizing tricks from the “Magic Team of Gary Kantor”! Amaze family and friends with tricks that involve cards, ropes, coins, mind-reading and more. While the tricks may appear difficult, you will discover that they are quick to learn and easy to perform. All materials are provided, and each child receives a magic kit to take home. Brand new tricks are taught at each session! Instructor: The Magic Team of Gary Kantor.

Summer Gardening – NEW!

Ages 6-10 years
There’s no better time to enjoy the outdoors and do some planting and creating treats for our outdoor friends. We will make wildflower seed bombs using recycled paper that you can take home and plant in your yard. We will also make cookie cutter bird feeders for you to hang in your tree and watch your feathered friends enjoy. It’s never too soon to think about those fall pumpkins too! We will start some pumpkins from seed, so you can transplant them in your garden once they are ready. Instructed by Jennifer Peppmuller and Tiffany Pekoc.

Edible Science – NEW!

Ages 6-10 years
Science you can eat! Let’s learn all about chemical reactions, solar power and more as we perform experiments we can eat too! We will make solar powered ovens to make s’mores, enjoy ice cream made in a bag and create edible Starburst slime! Instructed by Jennifer Peppmuller and Tiffany Pekoc

Outdoor Summer Games – NEW!

Ages 8-12 years
Join us for a day of outdoor fun in the sun! We will play life size Jenga, test your skill in slip and slide bowling, compete in water gun relay races and get messy in a paint slip and slide! Bring a white or light colored shirt for painting and a bath or beach towel for drying off. Instructed by Jennifer Peppmuller and Tiffany Pekoc.

Beach Inspired Art – NEW!

We’re celebrating the warm summer days with a fun night of summer art and snacks! We will paint a beautiful beach canvas and add our own sandy footprint and make beach pudding cups snacks complete with water and a sun tanning teddy graham. Instructed by Jennifer Peppmuller and Tiffany Pekoc.

Basic Coding 1

Beginning Computer Animation

Ages 6-11 years
Learn to create your own characters on the computer! Students will learn animation techniques, adding effects, character voices and music making their own animation to share! Materials included.

Beginning Robotics

Ages 9-11 years
Join this fun class building your own interactive robots to take home and keep. Students will start out making small micro vibrobots and work their way up to a larger bot. They will learn basics of robotics, soldering, coding and sensors that are used in robots. They will have new bots to take home every week. Robot kit and other materials included.

Synergy Mini Cheer, Dance & Pom Summer Camp – NEW!

Ages 4-8 years
Camp is for those interested in beginning cheer, dance and pom Each day we will spend time on skills and techniques in each area including chants, motions, jumps, hip hop and poms. Please wear comfortable clothes and gym shoes daily. Lunch will be provided. Camp is held outside.

Musical Theater Summer Camp – Battle of the Musicals!

Grades 1st-8th
Join our summer camp where we will audition and place each student into a small snipit from a musical. At the end of the week, each musical group will perform and we will crown a winner! There will be three different musical snipits! Directed by Jackie Weiss.
